The Powell is the Chelsea-style quilt, and it is the jacket most Barbour customers reach for first. Built for the outdoors but clean enough for a city coat, it does the work of a mid layer without looking like one.
Quilted polyester outer over 50g wadding, so the warmth arrives without bulk, and a fleece lining behind it that does more than the weight suggests. The two-way zip runs up to a corduroy-lined funnel neck that studs closed against wind and rain. A slim, modern cut with adjustable waist tabs at the back keeps the line tidy, and there are pockets enough for a day out, including a zipped security pocket. Synthetic leather trim and tonal embroidery finish it.
Ours goes over a knit and denim from the first cool week of September, and underneath a topcoat once it turns properly cold. Machine washable, which is the quiet advantage a quilt has over wax.
