The Ashby is the wax jacket for the man who tries on a Bedale and finds it a touch short and boxy. Barbour introduced it in 2011 as the longer, leaner take on the country original, and it is the one we reach for when a customer wants the heritage look without the country cut.
The cloth is 6oz Sylkoil waxed cotton, a medium weight with a soft matte finish that feels broken in from the first wear and darkens at the elbows and cuffs as it ages. A Stormfly front with stud fastenings covers the zip, the sit-down corduroy collar can be worn flat or turned up with the throat strap fastened, and two angled handwarmer pockets sit above two bellow pockets with snap closures. Inside there is a Classic Tartan lining and the interactive zip that takes a quilted liner or a hood for winter.
Grey is the quiet one in the wax range. It reads more city than country and sits easily with navy, charcoal and denim. Wear it over a chunky knit with dark denim and leather Chelsea boots.
