The Ashby is the wax jacket for the man who tries on a Bedale and finds it a touch short and boxy. Barbour introduced it in 2011 as the longer, leaner take on the country original, and it is the one we reach for when a customer wants the heritage look without the country cut.
The cloth is 6oz Sylkoil waxed cotton, a medium weight with a soft matte finish that feels broken in from the first wear and darkens at the elbows and cuffs as it ages. A Stormfly front with stud fastenings covers the zip, the sit-down corduroy collar can be worn flat or turned up with the throat strap fastened, and two angled handwarmer pockets sit above two bellow pockets with snap closures. Inside there is a Classic Tartan lining and the interactive zip that takes a quilted liner or a hood for winter.
Grey is the quiet one in the wax range. It reads more city than country and sits easily with navy, charcoal and denim. Wear it over a chunky knit with dark denim and leather Chelsea boots.
Sponge clean only with cold water. Do not wash, do not dry clean and do not tumble dry. Rewax every three to five years, depending on wear and conditions, with Thornproof wax dressing when the finish goes dry.
Tailored fit, cut longer through the body and closer than the relaxed Bedale block. Sizes run in house letters SM to 3XL, which match S to XXXL on the label. Take your usual menswear letter size for a shirt and a mid-weight knit underneath, and go up one if you plan to run a heavy sweater or zip a liner in for winter. Full measurements are in the chart below.
This is the size chart for the Ashby waxed jacket. The label inside reads S to XXXL and our sizes use the same letters, matched in the first row. Chest and waist to fit are Barbour's published body measurements for the Ashby block. Take your usual size for a shirt and a mid-weight knit underneath. Go up one if you want it over a heavy sweater or with a zip-in liner.
