Two ways to get it. One of them ends at your door with nothing owing.
We ship worldwide from our shop in Edmonton, Alberta. When you order from outside Canada you choose how the duty gets handled. Pick a courier at checkout and we calculate the exact duty and import tax for your destination, add it to the shipping line, and forward it to your customs authority ourselves. Nothing is collected at delivery. Pick Canada Post instead and you pay less up front, but your own postal service will collect the duty from you before it hands the parcel over.
Courier rates (FedEx, UPS, DHL) are quoted duty paid. The price beside the courier name already contains the duty and import tax calculated for your destination, so the number at the bottom of the order summary is the full amount you will ever pay on the order. Canada Post is quoted freight only, which is why it is the cheaper line. If you choose it, expect a duty bill from your postal service before delivery.
Duty is calculated from each item's Harmonized System code, its country of origin, and your destination's current tariff schedule. We update our tariff data continuously so trade-policy shifts are reflected in what you see at checkout.
Who carries your order
FedEx, UPS and DHL are our courier options and they are all quoted Delivered Duty Paid. Your duty is prepaid at checkout, so there is no broker invoice, no delivery-time fee, and nothing to sign a cheque for at the door. Transit is two to four business days for most destinations. Canada Post is the economy line: slower, cheaper, and duty unpaid, which means your own postal service handles the import and bills you for it.
Orders containing fragrance ship by courier only, never by post, because of international air-transport rules for flammable liquids. If you have chosen Canada Post on a fragrance order we will email you before shipping.
How duty actually works
Every country charges import duty differently. Most calculate it as a percent of your order value plus shipping, then add a separate import tax (GST, VAT, sales tax). The rate depends on the item, the material, and where it was made. Our system calculates the exact figures at checkout using your destination's current tariff and tax schedule.
We declare full and honest customs values on every shipment. We do not under-declare to save you money. The amount you pay at checkout is what we forward to your country's customs authority on your behalf when the parcel clears the border.
Trade policy has been moving quickly since 2025, especially on US-bound shipments. Our tariff data updates continuously, so what you see at checkout reflects the rate in force at that moment. In the rare case that a rate change lands between your order and your parcel clearing customs, and the actual duty differs materially from what we collected, we handle it on our end. You do not get a delivery-time bill.
Some of what we carry lands duty free
Goods made in the United States re-enter the United States free of duty as American goods returned, under HTSUS 9801.00.10. That is not a trade agreement anyone can renegotiate, and the 2025 tariff changes did not touch it. If a piece was made in the States, it goes home for the price on the tag.

Expected delivery
Customs clearance can add one to three business days on a courier, and considerably more by post, especially during holiday periods. Canada Post times are the carrier’s own estimates and do not include the time your postal service takes to collect duty from you. We hand off shipments same day for orders placed before 2pm Mountain Time on weekdays.
Returns, and how to not need one
We would rather get it right the first time than make returning easy, so start here. Every product page carries the garment’s own measurements, not a generic size chart, and we will happily measure a piece you already own and tell you which size to take. Email menswear@mrderk.com or book fifteen minutes with Sterling before you order. It costs you nothing and it is the whole reason we are a shop and not a warehouse.
If it still is not right, we send you a prepaid return label. Return shipping is a flat $25, deducted from your refund. That is the whole cost, whatever the parcel actually costs us to bring home. Email us and the label arrives the same day.
Unworn, tags on, within 30 days of delivery. Nothing to pay up front, nothing to work out at the post office.
Outside the United States, we handle returns case by case for now. Email us before sending anything back so we can confirm the address and the paperwork, otherwise it can be held at the border on the way in.
On any approved return we refund the product cost in full, and on courier orders we also refund the duty and import tax you paid us at checkout. Duty you paid directly to your own postal service on a Canada Post order is between you and them, though most countries will refund it on request once the goods leave again. If the item arrived defective or we sent the wrong thing, there is no return charge and we refund the original shipping too.
FAQ
Why am I paying duty when I never had to before?
In 2025 the United States ended the $800 de minimis exemption that previously let small commercial imports clear duty-free. Every US-bound order now incurs duty regardless of value. Other countries have their own de minimis thresholds (the UK and EU are €150, Australia is AU$1,000) and we calculate based on each country's current rules.
Will I have to pay anything when my order is delivered?
On a courier, no. Everything is collected at checkout, the parcel arrives Delivered Duty Paid, and duty and tax have already been forwarded to your customs authority on your behalf. No broker invoice, no cash at the door, nothing to sign for beyond delivery itself. On Canada Post, yes. That rate is freight only, and your postal service will contact you for the duty before it delivers. What you save on the shipping line is roughly what you will be asked for later.
What happens if the actual duty is different from what I paid?
On a courier order we handle it. If the actual duty comes in lower than we collected, we refund the difference. If it comes in higher because of a rate change between your order and clearance, we absorb it. You never see a delivery-time bill either way.
Can you mark my order as a gift?
No. We declare full commercial value on all shipments. Marking a commercial order as a gift is customs fraud and creates real risk for you (fines, seizure, future shipment delays) and for us (importer-of-record flag). We respect you and the law too much to do that.
Do you ship to PO boxes or APO/FPO addresses?
Couriers require a physical street address. Canada Post can reach a PO box, and for APO or FPO addresses it is usually the only route, but it is duty unpaid. Email menswear@mrderk.com before ordering and we will sort out the right service.
What if my country requires a tax ID for customs clearance?
Some countries (Brazil, India, South Korea, others) require the recipient's tax ID number to clear customs. Include it in the order notes at checkout or email us right after ordering. Without it the carrier will hold the shipment and contact you directly, which adds days.
