Rent vs. Buy a Wedding Suit in Edmonton
For over 40 years, we facilitated suit rentals.
When we moved to our new Mr. Derk location, we continued offering rentals through a third-party warehouse partner. Over time, we realized something important.
The rental model no longer met the standards we demand for our clients.
So we made the decision to step away from in-store rentals.
Not because rentals do not work. We simply believe there is a better option for most weddings.

Quick questions about fit, timelines, or groomsmen sizing? We can help in real time.
The Biggest Issue: Fit
Fit is everything. Rentals are built on standardized sizing, and that creates real limitations.
Where rentals struggle most
- Athletic builds with broad shoulders and smaller waists
- Men who lift and need aggressive tapering
- Heavier builds that require reshaping
- Mixed body types across a wedding party
What we do differently
With ownership, we tailor in-house. We reshape, taper, refine, and build the garment around you. Whether you choose European ready-to-wear, an entry-level custom made-to-measure, or a fully Canadian-made suit, every garment is finished to fit your build.
- No warehouse dependency
- No hoping your size arrives
- No event-week panic
Rental garments can only be altered within narrow tolerances. If your shoulders are too wide, your waist too small, or your seat too full, there is only so much that can be done.
The 16 Touchpoint Reality of Rentals
Most people do not realize what happens behind the scenes of a rental garment. A typical rental suit goes through roughly 16 touchpoints before and after an event.
Behind-the-scenes touchpoints
Each step adds: handling, timeline pressure, human error, and wear.
Rental systems work best in extremely high-volume warehouse environments. In today's market, that model does not allow us to control quality the way we believe we should. If we cannot guarantee the standard, we will not offer it.

Time Has Value
Renting often requires multiple appointments, final fittings close to the event, pickups days before, and returns immediately after. Before you decide, consider what your time is actually worth.
Multiple Appointments
Measurements, fittings, pickup, and return. Each one is a trip on your calendar.
Last-Minute Fittings
Final fittings happen close to the event. Exactly when your schedule is already packed.
Exchange Runs
Wrong size? That's another round trip. Potentially across the city or longer if inventory isn't stored locally.
Returns After the Wedding
The day after your wedding, someone has to return the suits. That's the last thing you want on your mind.
Out-of-City Inventory
Many rental programs don't store inventory in Edmonton. Delays, shipping errors, and sizing gaps become your problem.
Wedding Party Coordination
Someone always forgets pickup. Someone always needs a last-minute exchange. With us, that's handled before it becomes a problem.
In-House Tailoring Changes Everything
We measure and tailor in-house. That is rare now, and it changes what is possible for your wedding party.
What we handle in-house
Why ownership makes this better
The Difference Is in the Details
We control the fit from every angle.
The side seam, the shoulder, the seat. These are the details that separate a well-dressed man from one who just happens to be wearing a suit. We tailor every garment in-house so nothing leaves unfinished.
FREE TAILORING INCLUDED with all suits purchased at $899 and over. For everything else, most alterations run $75 to $125 depending on what's needed. Simple hems start at $15. Always flat-rate.
We control the process from start to finish. See our full alteration pricing →
Wedding Party Management, Where We Truly Stand Apart
This is where most retailers fall short. We operate a structured wedding party management system that handles the coordination so you don't have to.
Once your wedding party is confirmed, we build individual profiles for each member. Measurements, sizing notes, and garment selections all tracked in one place. We monitor ordering status across the group, schedule each person's fitting, and follow up directly when something needs attention. If a groomsman is out of town, we coordinate remote measurements and manage their garment so nothing falls through the cracks.
The result: you are not chasing down groomsmen, fielding questions about pickup times, or managing logistics in the weeks before your wedding. We handle it. You focus on the day.

When Renting Still Makes Sense
Rental may work if budget is extremely tight, it is a true one-time black-tie event, or you are comfortable with warehouse logistics and the coordination that comes with it.
If you are set on renting locally, Moores Clothing remains the only active rental option in Edmonton through their national program.

Is it cheaper to rent or buy a suit?
In many cases today, purchasing is comparable in cost. And ownership provides long-term value. Wear it twice and you've already come out ahead.
How far in advance should we start?
Ideally 2 to 3 months before your wedding date. This gives us time to order, fit, and tailor everything without rushing.
Can groomsmen have different body types?
Yes. And that's actually one of the strongest arguments for buying. We tailor to each individual build, which rentals simply can't do at scale.
What if someone gains or loses weight?
Ownership means future alterations are always possible. Rentals don't offer that. The garment goes back and you start over next time.
What does tailoring cost?
Most alterations run $75 to $125 depending on what's needed. A simple hem starts at $15. Free tailoring is included with all suits purchased at $899 and over. See the full pricing list.
How does payment work?
All orders are confirmed with full payment upfront. No deposits, no split billing. This lets us put your garment into production immediately so your lead time starts from day one. It's a straightforward process, and we walk you through it at your consultation.
