A long-sleeve knit polo is the piece that lets a man skip the shirt and still look like he made an effort. This one has a proper three-button placket and a collar with enough body to sit right under a sport coat, and the oat colour is the kind of neutral that works with every trouser on the floor: navy, grey, brown, olive, denim. We brought it in for exactly that reason.
It is knit in 100% virgin wool at the family mill in Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata, in the foothills of the Gran Sasso massif, where four Di Stefano brothers set up their first knitting machines in 1952 and the family still runs the floor today. The 57125 has a fine vertical rib that gives the body a little structure without any weight, and the cuffs and hem are ribbed so it holds its shape instead of stretching out by spring.
Regular fit, true to size. Order the chest size you wear in a sport coat, and if you sit between sizes take the larger. The tag inside carries the Italian number, so a 42 from us is marked 52.
Tucked into flannels with a jacket over top it covers the office. Untucked over denim it covers the weekend. It replaces the button-down you were going to iron, and it will still look this good in five years.
