Most quilted jackets read as a weekend coat. This one is cut as a blazer, and that changes where you can wear it. In navy, it goes over an oxford shirt and a knit tie to the office the way a sport coat would, and the quilting adds some warmth. It's the layer we reach for in the weeks when a sport coat isn't enough and a parka is too much.
The cloth is Barberis wool, woven by Vitale Barberis Canonico in Pratrivero, in the Biella district. The family's wool milling records go back to 1663. Waterville has been making outerwear in Italy since 1992, and quilted pieces in Barberis wool are a regular part of its range. Wear this one with grey flannels, a white or blue shirt and brown suede shoes, or open over a fine merino crew with denim.
