A short check jacket that solves the awkward end of fall. The Lorden from Barbour reads as tailoring from a distance and behaves like outerwear in the rain, which is a useful combination for a week where the forecast cannot decide.
The cloth is a cotton-touch weave in a brown and navy micro-check, soft to the hand but backed with a polyurethane membrane, so a shower runs off it instead of soaking in. Concealed button fastenings keep the front clean with no visible hardware. Pockets front and inside, including a zipped wallet pocket where a phone and a passport sit safely. The interior is fully lined and the hem stops at roughly 28.3 in (72 cm), which keeps it short enough to wear over a knit without looking like a coat.
Ours goes over a merino crew and grey flannel trousers for a smart-casual week, or with denim and a knit on the weekend. Machine washable, which is more than most of the rack can claim.
