The Barbour customer figures out sweaters twice. The first time is when you buy the waxed jacket and realize you need something to wear under it that isn't a hoodie. Knit in a soft, mid-weight wool blend with a full button-through front and a folded shirt-style collar. The gauge is fine enough to sit flat under a wax shell without bunching at the chest, and heavy enough to hold shape after a season of proper wear. Cuffs, hem, and collar are ribbed to keep everything sitting where it should.
Dark sand is the quieter version. It picks up olive, brown, faded denim, cream, and everything in a Barbour tartan lining. Try it over a chambray with tan chinos and Alden indys, or button it up under an olive Bedale on a wet November afternoon. It reads Cotswolds pub, not city bar, and that is entirely the point.
