Light Moss Transport Waxed Jacket

The Transport is the short one. Where a Bedale sits long and proper, this swings out a little at the hem and lets you reach for a steering wheel or a dog lead without the whole jacket riding up. In Light Moss the wax reads as a soft countryside green, greyer than a bright olive, and it only improves as the finish breaks in. Barbour drew the original in the North East in the early 1980s, once the Bedale and Beaufort had landed.

Six ounce waxed cotton outer, so it sheds a wet October afternoon rather than shrugging at it. Traditional corduroy collar with a throat flap, elasticated wind cuffs, and two lower welt pockets that keep the line clean. Inside, cotton tartan lining. Tonal embroidery sits on the left pocket.

Sponge it clean, never wash it, and re-wax it every year or two with a tin of Thornproof dressing, which we keep on the shelf. Treated that way it is a twenty-year jacket. Ours goes over denim and a lambswool crew from the first cool week of September until the snow settles.
