The Prestbury is the warm one. Barbour built it on the same 6oz Sylkoil waxed cotton as the country jackets, then lined the whole body in a box-quilted layer, so it covers the part of an Edmonton winter where an unlined wax jacket needs a knit under it and this one does not.
The cut is short and clean, closer to a blouson than the hip-length country block, with angled stud-close flap pockets set high enough to reach with gloves on and tonal embroidery on the front left flap. The wax sheds a wet snow and darkens at the cuffs and elbows as it ages, which is the point of the cloth.
Olive is the shade the whole wax story was built on and it sits easily with denim, grey flannel and brown leather. Wear it over a Shetland crew and cords on the weekend, or over a shirt and knit tie on a cold drive in.
Sponge clean only with cold water. Do not wash, do not dry clean and do not tumble dry. Rewax the outer every three to five years, depending on wear and conditions, with Thornproof wax dressing when the finish goes dry.
Cut short and close to the body, so it reads trimmer than a Bedale or a Beaufort. Sizes run in house letters SM to 2XL, which match S to XXL on the label. The quilted lining takes up room, so take your usual menswear letter size for a shirt and a light knit underneath, and go up one if you plan to wear it over a heavy sweater. Full measurements are in the chart below.
This is the size chart for the Prestbury waxed jacket. The label inside reads S to XXL and our sizes use the same letters, matched in the first row. Chest and waist to fit are Barbour's published body measurements for each size. Take your usual size for a shirt and a light knit underneath. Go up one if you want it over a heavy sweater, since the quilted lining takes up room.
