Plain brown, but not flat. Grenadine is woven open, so the cloth has a fine grain you can see up close, and the tip of the point shows how airy it is. Across a room it just reads as one deep, even brown.
The silk is spun with a high twist and woven on wooden looms that go back to 1928. The warp threads are the same brown as the weft, which gives the colour its depth. Flip the tie over and the woven label reads Handmade in London, England, with a brown keeper loop just above it.
It's the brown tie for autumn and winter. The grain gives a plain tie some life without competing with a patterned shirt or jacket, so it's at home with a charcoal suit, an olive or tobacco jacket or a tweed sport coat. A blue striped button-down, as pictured, is the easy shirt to wear it with.
