Pinpoint is the oxford for the man who likes the idea of a button-down but finds the standard cloth a bit much under a jacket. Finer yarn, a tighter basket weave, a softer hand and a faint sheen, and it still washes and wears like the oxford it is. Ecru sits between white and cream, and it is the shade we reach for under tweed and flannel when a bright white reads too stiff.
The shirt comes out of Drake's own factory in Chard, Somerset, the old Cleeve of London works they bought in 2013, generally regarded as the last independent shirt factory left in England. Eighteen pieces go into each one, all sewn single needle, with the mother of pearl buttons whipped on by hand. The collar is the point of the exercise: a brushed interlining that floats rather than fuses, so it rolls the way an oxford collar should, tie or no tie.
Order your usual collar size. This is a regular cut with proper room through the chest and a full-length tail, not a slim fit, and it runs true to size. Note the 15.75, a half step between 15.5 and 16 that most makers skip; if you usually split the difference, that is your number. Single rounded one-button cuff, box pleat at the back.
