There is something about a great Western shirt that gets better when the fabric has real texture to it. The Green Checked Huston Western Shirt by AG immediately stood out to us for its 100% cotton waffle knit, combining the familiar character of vintage Western shirting with a softer, more tactile fabric that makes it exceptionally comfortable for everyday wear.
The Cotton Plaid Waffle fabric is woven in a beautifully muted combination of olive green, brown, and beige. It is an easy palette for fall and transitional dressing, but more importantly, the waffle construction gives those colours additional depth. Up close, there is considerably more texture and character than you would get from a conventional flat cotton plaid.
AG keeps the Western details authentic without allowing the shirt to feel costume-like. A pointed collar, traditional Western yoke, dual chest flap pockets, and pearl-like snap buttons through the front, pockets, and cuffs give the Huston its vintage Americana character. The curved hem and relaxed fit soften the silhouette and make it particularly easy to wear either on its own or as a lightweight overshirt.
The fabric itself is 100% cotton and non-stretch, which is one of the reasons the relaxed cut works so well. There is enough room through the body to let the natural cotton breathe and move comfortably without relying on synthetic stretch fibres.
We chose this version of the Huston because the colouring works exceptionally well with the wardrobes we build for our clients. Wear it with dark indigo denim and brown suede, layer it open over a simple T-shirt, or pair it with olive, charcoal, or cream trousers.
