Field Tan is the light N-1: a sandy waxed canvas with a mottled, scuffed look straight off the rack, lined with grey mouton at the collar and through the body. Tan and grey sit easily with denim, navy and olive.

This is Dehen's version of the Navy N-1 deck jacket from the Second World War. The shell is 10.10 oz waxed canvas. The sleeves and pockets are lined in black quilted satin, and the cuffs are 100% worsted wool, knit at Dehen's own factory in Portland on 1940s machines, as the label sewn inside the collar says.

It fits slim through the body because of the mouton lining. If you're between sizes, go up.

  • Collar and lining: genuine mouton fur, grey
  • Sleeve and pocket lining: black quilted satin
  • Cuffs: hidden 2x2 knit cuffs in Loden, 100% worsted wool, made at Dehen's factory on 1940s knitting machines
  • Six-button front over a hidden #10 brass zipper with a canvas pull
  • Two front welt pockets, plus an inside left-chest pocket with its own brass zipper
  • Neck closure, and zigzag stitching along the undercollar
  • Eyelets under each arm

  • Care: follow the care label sewn into the collar
  • Wear it as an outer layer in cold, dry weather, and open the closures if you start to overheat
  • To clean, try water first with a light brushing or scrubbing
  • No detergent, liquid soap or powder. A little flaked soap or saddle soap only if you need it, on the specific spot
  • Do not dry clean. The solvents strip the waxed finish

Sizing Notes

These are the maker's own garment measurements, taken flat. Chest is measured pit to pit and doubled. The jacket fits slim because of the mouton lining. If you measure between sizes, go up. Dehen's sizes run S, M, L, XL, XXL, which are our SM, MM, LG, XL, 2XL in the same order. Dehen publishes no measurements for a 3XL, so call 780-431-4293 if you need that size.
