Description

Everybody owns a flannel. Very few are any good. Most are scratchy, thin, and woven in a plaid that looks like a bargain rack. This one starts from the other end. The colourway comes from American flannels of the 1920s to the 1960s, the kind worn hard until they felt like an old favourite. Cactus Flower is a faded coral red cut with dusty blue, charcoal and cream lines, and it works under a denim jacket or on its own.

Peter Middleton, a Texan who spent four and a half years in fabric development at Ralph Lauren, started Wythe in 2019 chasing exactly this feeling. The cotton is grown in India, then spun, dyed and woven at a family-owned mill. It's a midweight washed flannel, brushed inside and out, so it's soft from the first wear. The finishing details are lifted from vintage western shirts, and they're all listed below.

Buy your normal size. It's cut with a bit of room to wear open over a tee or a thermal, and if you want it slimmer through the body, size down one.

It's the flannel we'd hand you if you wanted one shirt for October through March, open over a tee or snapped up under a jacket.
