This is the shirt the house is known for. Ask any of the thirty-odd shops in the world that carry it and they will tell you the same thing: the mediums and larges never last the season.

This edition comes in a brushed cotton with a proper flannel hand, woven in a grey check named for the Camargue, the marshland delta in the south of France famous for its grey horses. The brushing raises a soft nap, so it wears warm without any weight.

The cut is generous through the body and sleeve, made to be worn easy, tucked or open over a tee. It runs a full size bigger than you expect. If you wear a large in most shirts, take the MM to LG here, and size down whenever you are in between.

Sewing is done in Fânzeres, Portugal, in the atelier of João Nuno Luz, and the shirt carries his atelier's name on the label. Our pick for the flannel-shirt slot this fall, with denim or a grey wool trouser.

This is the size chart for the De Bonne Facture Artist Shirt in brushed cotton. Measured flat in store. Chest, bicep and stomach are half measurements taken flat; double them for the full circumference. Sleeve is measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. The cut is generous and runs about one size larger than North American sizing, so size down if you are between sizes. XL, 2XL, 3XL are not measured yet; expect roughly 1 in (2.5 cm) per size in the chest.
