An unstructured single-breasted jacket with no lining and no shoulder padding, so it wears closer to a fine cardigan than a sport coat. You put it on in October and forget you are wearing it until you take it off.

The cloth is a Super 130's merino twill from mulesing-free wool, with the drape and recovery you would expect from suiting at twice the price. The colour is vert-de-gris, the soft grey-green of weathered copper, and it is far easier to wear than it sounds. Treat it as a green that behaves like a grey.

The fit is slightly oversized by design. It is cut generously: take your usual size for the intended oversized look, or size down one for a closer fit.

Made by the Atelier of Mr Erbas in Pantin, France, whose name is on the label. Cut from the same cloth as the One Pleat Trousers: worn together they make a broken suit you can wear to dinner, and both halves earn their keep alone.
