A low-top leather sneaker built the old way. Blake-stitched, fully resoleable, and cut from 2.0 to 2.2mm Horween Chromexcel in a rich dark brown that will patina beautifully with wear. Made by a family workshop that has been building shoes since 1936, now run from Sheffield, England.

 

Chromexcel is a hot-stuffed leather from Horween's Chicago tannery, pull-up character, deep colour tones, and a soft hand once it has broken in. Paired with a gum cupsole, it walks like a sneaker and wears like a boot.

  • Laces: waxed cotton

Chromexcel loves a light hand. Wipe down with a horsehair brush after each wear, and every few months rub in a small amount of Venetian shoe cream or Saphir Renovateur to feed the hide and revive the pull-up.

Do not over-condition. The leather is already hot-stuffed with oils and wax at the tannery, a thin coat once a season is plenty.

For deeper cleaning, bring them into the shop. Blake construction means the sole can be replaced when it wears through, and Goral states a lifetime repair guarantee on its footwear. We are setting up a preferred resole partner with Goral, so ask us when the time comes.

True to size. Order your standard US shoe size. The last has the right amount of room built in, no need to size up or down.

Sizing Notes

Sizes on our site are shown in US. Goral sizes in UK, one full size below the US size shown, and publishes the matching EU size. A US 10 is a UK 9 and an EU 43. Tap UK or EU to switch the primary column and read your size across. Goral publishes EU half sizes, so a US half size has its own EU number. The Mellor runs true to size, so order your usual US size. It is made in half sizes. We list US 8 to 12, plus Wide (EE) in US 10 and 11, and sold-out sizes show as unavailable. Ask us about stock and special orders.

Widths

Goral makes Regular (D) and Wide (EE), and the wide suits a wider foot or a high instep. Only the Mellor comes in Wide (EE), and we carry it in US 10 and 11. The Baslow is regular only. We can special order other sizes and widths from Goral, so ask us.
