Tramarossa Fit Guide

The Mr. Derk Guide to Tramarossa Sizing

Real measurements from our Edmonton floor, the difference between Michelangelo and Luis, and how to pick your size in Italian stretch denim and chinos.

About Tramarossa

Italian denim built around modern stretch.

Tramarossa is a premium Italian denim and trouser house from Vicenza in northern Italy. The brand made its name on technical stretch fabrics that move with the body without losing their shape, which is why their flagship Michelangelo block has become a staple for men who want the silhouette of slim Italian denim without the rigidity of raw selvedge.

The house works across multiple fabric programs: traditional cotton-elastane denims, recycled-cotton blends, and proprietary super-stretch compositions for their chino program. Each fabric is woven and finished in Italy. Pieces are cut in Italy.

At Mr. Derk in Edmonton we carry the Tramarossa men's collection year-round, primarily the Michelangelo denim block and the Luis super-stretch chino, with seasonal additions across our retail floor and online.

The Two Fits

Tramarossa is built on two cuts. Knowing which one you're trying on changes how you size it.

Michelangelo

The denim block

Cut: regular slim through the leg, mid rise, slight taper from knee to bottom opening.

Tramarossa's flagship denim. Available across multiple fabric weights and stretch compositions. The cut stays consistent block-to-block, but the hand and recovery change with the fabric. A 92% cotton raw denim feels firmer on first wear than a 52% cotton recycled-stretch blend, even at the same labelled size.

Luis

The super-stretch chino

Cut: slim through thigh and knee, slightly tapered, mid rise. Cleaner front than the denim block.

Tramarossa's super-stretch chino program. Engineered to wear like a soft trouser with the recovery of athletic wear. Pairs cleanly with everything from a sport coat to a knit polo. The bottom opening sits half an inch tighter than Michelangelo for a more polished line.

Sizing Notes

All measurements are taken flat across the garment, not doubled. Blended across our four in-stock Michelangelo fabric variants. Allow ±1 to ±1.5 cm variance from these numbers due to the different stretch compositions Tramarossa uses across the program.

How To Pick Your Size

Three quick rules.

1. Size by waist. The labelled size is your nominal waist in inches. A size 32 jean is cut to fit a 32-inch body waist. Use the chart above to confirm the flat measurement matches your expectation.

2. Trust the stretch. Tramarossa's stretch fabrics give back about half a size of comfort within the first three or four wears. If you're between sizes and prefer a leaner look, size down. If you want immediate comfort with no break-in, size up.

3. Inseam is unhemmed. Tramarossa ships every pair longer than you'll wear it. We hem in store at no charge with your purchase. Tell us your hem and finish (clean or chain-stitch) when you check out.

If you're not sure, come into the store. We'll measure you free of charge and pull a few options to try. No purchase necessary.

Every pair of Tramarossa from Mr. Derk includes complimentary in-house hemming. Clean finish or chain-stitch, your call. We've finished thousands of pairs of denim and chinos.

Tramarossa FAQ

The questions we get most often, on the floor and over the phone.

Does Tramarossa run small?

Tramarossa runs true to size for slim Italian denim, which means leaner through the thigh and knee than most North American brands. If you've worn AG, Citizens of Humanity, or Replay slim fits, expect a similar feel. The stretch construction means even a snug initial fit relaxes about half a size after a few wears.

What's the difference between Michelangelo and Luis?

Michelangelo is the denim block — five-pocket jeans in cotton-stretch fabrics across multiple weights and washes. Luis is the super-stretch chino program, cut from a smoother, more polished fabric for a cleaner front and a slightly tighter bottom opening. Same overall slim silhouette, different end use.

How does the stretch perform over time?

Tramarossa's stretch yarns are engineered to recover, not just relax. After about half a size of give in the first few wears, the fit holds. A wash and air-dry returns the pair close to its original measurements. We've seen customers keep Michelangelo pieces in rotation for five-plus years without measurable bagging at the seat or knee.

Will my Tramarossa shrink?

Most variants are pre-washed and will shrink less than half an inch over their lifetime. Raw Michelangelo variants will shrink slightly on the first wash. We recommend cold wash inside-out, hang dry. Avoid the dryer to preserve fabric integrity and stretch recovery.

What's the difference between the fabric variants on Michelangelo?

Michelangelo is offered in several compositions across each season. Higher cotton percentages (98 percent and above) feel firmer with classic denim hand. Recycled-cotton and elastane blends (around 50 to 60 percent cotton) feel softer with more pronounced stretch and recovery. The cut stays the same. The hand and the way the pair holds its shape changes.

Where is Tramarossa made?

Tramarossa is designed and produced in Italy, with the brand's home in Vicenza in the Veneto region. Fabrics are sourced from Italian and European mills. Cutting and finishing are done in Italian factories.

Do you offer hemming?

Yes, complimentary with every pair. Clean hem or chain-stitch finish, your choice. Our in-house tailoring team has finished thousands of pairs of premium denim and stretch chinos and we know how to keep the original hem character on raw selvedge variants.

What's your return policy on Tramarossa?

Standard 14 days from purchase, unworn, with original tags attached. Pairs that have been hemmed or otherwise altered are final sale. If you're shopping online and unsure about size, we strongly recommend booking a fitting in store, or calling us first to talk through measurements.

How does Tramarossa compare to AG, Citizens, or Replay?

Tramarossa sits alongside AG and Citizens of Humanity as a premium stretch-denim brand, with a more European cut through the thigh and knee. Replay overlaps on cut but Tramarossa generally uses higher-end Italian fabrics and a finer hand. Among the three, Tramarossa is the most polished option and the easiest to dress up with a sport coat.
